Bowling Away Winter Blues

This past Friday, the HOPE Mentoring crew met in New Castle for their weekly activity. This week we had a special treat, as activity was held at the Rose Bowl bowling alley! Everyone got a chance to show off their best bowling moves, though one of our senior mentors, Jesse, swept the race with the highest scores both rounds. We were able to enjoy a little conversation over pizza, and watch our students compete to see who could make the most free-throws in a minute in the arcade. It was a really fun break from the hard work we usually do, but we are looking forward to doing more work with our SMART goals next week. Check out the pictures and videos of our bowling fun, above.

College and Career Fair Success!!

This past October, the Madison Juvenile Correctional Facility hosted their second College and Career Fair for all the girls. It was another huge success, with more than 15 community members coming to represent different vocational and educational opportunities. There were reps from Ivy Tech and IU, as well as people to talk about cosmetology, journalism, the food industry, the Army, veterinary school, and a host of other fields. Two IU students also hosted a College Q&A session to answer any questions the girls had about college, and they had some AMAZING questions. New Castle: A Semester in Review

Last semester, we were so involved in our weekly activities that we missed out a bit on the picture taking! We finished off the year with some great activities, learning about different cultural holiday celebrations, decorating gingerbread houses, and sipping hot cocoa. Even earlier (way back in October!) we had a lot of fun carving pumpkins and playing Halloween Charades. Below are photos of student pumpkins and the gingerbread houses we made.
